Today in country music history:

2008 - Carrie Underwood played a show in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and met her future husband, NHL player Mike Fisher, backstage.

2003 – Kid Rock and Tim McGraw played a surprise show Pontiac, Michigan, outside of Detroit to benefit the Red Cross.  McGraw had played his own two-hour show beforehand in Auburn Hills.

1999 - Garth Brooks got his first hit during spring training as he played with the San Diego Padres.

1998 - Clint Black took "Nothin' but the Taillights" to number one.

1994 - The 8 Seconds soundtrack featuring Reba, Brooks & Dunn and Vince Gill was certified gold.

1988 - Randy Travis won three trophies at the ACM Awards.

1987 - Restless Heart scored a number one with "I'll Still Be Loving You."

1981 - Willie Nelson hit number one with "Angel Flying too Close to the Ground."
